Weekly Reading - 11/15-21/21
What to Expect: This week will bring a full moon, with a partial lunar eclipse, into our astrological energy. Friday will be the full moon, bringing some culmination to what was started at the new moon a few weeks back during Scorpio season, which may have involved looking at hidden desires or exploring your dark side. This full moon aligns with the star Algol, which is associated with misfortune, violence and sickness, but can also encourage spiritual transformation, perhaps what was started back at the new moon. This means something in your life’s path may be ready to change or at a breaking point. (NOTE: This eclipse marks the start of eclipse season, which is a 35-day period that happens twice each year when the planets, sun and moon are aligned to bring about more frequent eclipses, and which will last until the solar eclipse on April 30, 2022. The next eclipse will be a solar eclipse on December 4 coinciding with the new moon.)
The tarot card for what to expect this week is the Eight of Pentacles, which suggests a focus on creativity, craftsmanship, and learning. Perhaps learning a new skill or teaching it to someone else. Now would be a good time to invest in developing your skill set that can ultimately bring in a financial or material benefit as well. Perhaps this moon cycle gave you some insight into a talent or skill that you’ve kept hidden and now would be a good time to unleash that skill to bring in some side money. On Tuesday, the Sun sextiles Pluto, which may bring about a desire to learn about the occult or psychology or other mysteries brought out by Pluto. Thursday, Mercury trines Neptune, which is another good time for creative projects, dreams becoming reality, and musical/harmonious projects in particular (music, dance, etc.). These planetary positions, along with the Eight of Pentacles, suggests this week could be a good time to explore these new creative interests with greater dedication.
What to Embrace: The Five of Pentacles reversed suggests a financial or material hardship may be starting to take a turn for the better. It’s possible you’ve been focused on financial challenges or your focus on material items/money has overtaken your spiritual or emotional being. This card indicates a need to embrace a mindset that appreciates what you have, letting go of materialism for a while. Embrace the things you have, rather than focusing on what’s missing. You may feel this most on Monday, when the sun squares Jupiter, as Jupiter is all about expansion and good times, but the squared position with the sun can is a negative position, suggesting a need to be cautious with celebrations and overindulgence. Don’t overdo things, but also feel optimistic about what you have. Along with the full moon on Friday, Venus will be in Capricorn, which can be another planetary position that asks us to get serious about our finances, especially with those luxury items that we indulge in (Venus’ energy). Perhaps it’s time to embrace other non-material luxury items that can shift our focus away from money.
What to Leave Behind: This week’s partial lunar eclipse kicks off the eclipses in the Taurus-Scorpio axis, and you should pay attention to any areas of your birth chart where there are prominent Taurus or Scorpio positions, as there will be a push to make improvements in these areas over the eclipse season. The Knight of Wands suggests there has been some fire lit in a creative area or passion project in your life, perhaps relating to your deeper, creative, hidden desires that are being explored during Scorpio season. The Knight suggests that although there’s been some ignition of passions, you may be struggling with restlessness or impulsiveness, or perhaps can’t figure out a way forward. However, it’s time to leave that behind and try to get more focused and realistic about these passion projects. If you’ve been feeling restless or impulsive, try to organize your ideas to make them into a reality. If you’ve been frustrated or overwhelmed because there are too many ideas, try to do a “brain dump” of ideas on paper, and then prioritize. As the moon begins to wane, it’s a good time for inward reflection that can begin by looking over some of these lists and priorities.
What to Bring: With all of these creative projects going on, the Ten of Wands reminds us that we’re taking on an additional burden and run the risk of becoming overwhelmed with these passion projects. As you move into reflection this week and get recharged with the energy of the full moon, try to reflect on where you’re feeling overwhelmed in the creative life/work life/home life balance. Finding time to talk over your ideas with others can help share the load; you might also need to literally delegate to others if you’re feeling overwhelmed. This can mean delegating tasks at work or with home chores, leaving you time to focus on your creative projects for a while, or could look like bringing on a team to help you make your passion projects a reality. In either case, the Ten of Wands suggests you’re almost at the end of a creative journey, but you run the risk of burn out if you don’t bring along some help.
To Do: Full moon celebrations and ceremonies on Friday. A good time to howl at the moon, connect with others, and focus on your spiritual transcendence. The full moon is a good time for healing ceremonies, for grounding, and for recharging your crystals. In terms of the moon cycle, the full moon is a good time to evaluate what you’ve accomplished this cycle and celebrate your achievements.
Meditation: Gratitude meditation, especially for things that aren’t tied to money or material items; take some time to appreciate your blessings or visualize what else you want in your life to feel fulfilled beyond what money can buy. Full moon meditation on Thursday, Friday or Saturday – meditate outside in the moonlight, or take a moonlight bath to relax with some aromatherapy and think about the moonlight helping clean your soul.
Crystals: Moonstone or clear quartz for the moon’s energy; selenite also works well, but be careful not to expose it to water. Citrine, fire agate, spinel, ametrine are all good options for creativity and expression.
Herbs: Rosemary, sage, and turmeric are good options to help focus your mind when feeling overwhelmed or overactive with creativity. These herbs help improve brain function, memory and task performance, and might be beneficial if you need to hunker down and make those dreams a reality. The essential oil of wild oat may be useful to those with uncertainty and a lack of clear direction or for those who are wrestling with the deeper meaning of life, related to their passion projects. Orrisroot is another herb associated with the moon; camphor is another essential oil corresponding with the moon.
